Roundtable: What's the next Football Index Trend?

Updated: May 20, 2019

Welcome, and thank you for joining our blog! If you've calmed down enough from the last 3 nights of breathtaking football, we hope to give you a range of opinions on the hottest Football Index topics. Nobody is right, and nobody is wrong, football is all about opinions and this is no different!

---

Last night we saw a surge of money enter the Index. Is this the start of the next wave or just someone with too many beers inside them, giddy at the amazing few nights of action? Where do you see the next full trend coming from?

This is how our discussion went, what's your take?

Penguin

Personally, I think just aim your port for MB and ignore the shit that happens between. You’ll be fine then, just don’t bother with short term antics.

Tetleys

I've been preparing for it since early March, if not sooner. I can't be arsed with the kids and their tournaments.

Nick S

I'm already in on the main MB players, I've picked up a few England players too with the Nations League ahead. It might take a while to get there, but I don't think people will want to miss out on players finishing in the Top 5 MB places each day and money will move there over the coming weeks.

AD

Media magnets for me, but people will wait until the last minute. There may be a bit of suffering between now and then.

Tetleys

I agree. I think all the 'value' in the youth market ahead of the tournament's has gone, buying specifically for that is just lining other folks pockets that were sharper.

I think there will be another youth push but that will be aimed at breakout players for next season. Although that's less likely to throw out gems in the same was that last summer did became every kid with an ounce of talent already has world domination priced in!

TB

As I said on the pod last night (www.tradingbearpodcast.com), I think we're in for a few more days/weeks of downturn, before the MB players start to kick in with the triple media dividend days.

Then the stars of each tournament (u20, u21, Nations, Copa, AFCON) will attract buying action. Although as proved last night, you never know when a surge on a PB players may happen. I was hoping to drip buy into Havertz, before last nights rocket boost!

Frosties

Having seen Kane and Salah rocket yesterday, MB magnets should be in for a serious boost soon.

MDJ

Agree with MB. I also think we could see some sort of unexpected transfer saga play out this year, pushing someone new into the media darling zone. We’re all banking on the likes of Hazard and Pogba but if someone else emerges, there could be money to made by spotting that early.

FI Mane For Nothin'

Fully agree on this. I think cash balance will be king.

With so many big games to be played this season I also think folks are keeping their powder dry on media madness. It may not be obvious until after the Champions League Final or maybe even after the Nations League which players are "nailed on" to dominate media that summer. An unlikely hero could emerge from these big games.

Frosties

I agree with you there too, MDJ. May be worth keeping a decent cash balance for this as FI Mane For Nothin' says. It’ll be anyone coming to Man Utd, Chelsea (dependant on ban) and Arsenal for their rebuild I imagine.

Liverpool still need to do some business, I feel, in their CAM role unless Keita gets pushed forward more.

Nick S

It seems obvious Liverpool will go for a CAM but I’m not 100% sure who, if anyone. The Fekir deal seems dead, there’s been nothing from journalists close to the club to suggest that’s back on the agenda and it’s not really Liverpool/Klopp style to go and buy a huge name, Dybala or James type.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we don’t go for anyone there. Ox is back and Keita showed signs of settling in before injury too.
